Plums, Purple Leaf Plums!

Here in our neck of the woods (Sparks, NV) the temperatures have been very HOT. I (Sheila) don’t do very HOT so well. I love the early mornings (until about 8am) and the late evenings (after 8pm) but all the time in-between is just spent hiding out of the heat.

Our little plum tree is exploding with more fruit then I have ever seen in the 8 years I have lived here. The branches are touching the ground! We thought we would help out our tree and pick a few pounds (16 lbs!!) to make some jam or jelly. I can tell you that 16 pounds did not even begin to make a dent in the about of fruit on the tree, however, HOLY JELLY!

We now have years worth of Purple Leaf Plum Jelly! If you are one of my friends you now know what you’re getting for Christmas! HA

I made a fun video of the process.

If you want the recipe send me a message or leave it in the comments.

We hope you are having a great summer! Stop back soon!

About the author

Hi, I’m Sheila Joy-Lorntzen—a photographer, storyteller, and adventurer based in the beautiful high deserts of Nevada. With a camera in hand and a love for capturing life’s moments, I specialize in teaching others how to see the world through a photographer’s lens.

When I’m not leading photo walks or mentoring aspiring photographers, you’ll find me baking sourdough bread, documenting the journey of building our homestead, or exploring new landscapes for inspiration. I believe photography is more than taking pictures; it’s about connecting, learning, and finding beauty in the everyday.
